In 1870, the society commissioned R.S. Miller of Logansport, Indiana to construct the monument.  The Monument is made of light brown lime stone.  The original cost was $3000.00.    At its base, the Monument is 8 feet 10 inches.  In total, the Monument stands 35 feet, 10 inches.  It was erected in its current location on June 4, 1870 (Pg. 20-21, Massacre at Gnadenhutten, Gnadenhutten Historical Society, 1988).
